Discovering your Soul’s Purpose
Did you ever wonder what your soul’s purpose might be?
Questions I often hear in my coaching practice are: What is a soul’s purpose? Do we all have a soul’s purpose? What is mine and how do I find it?
My answers to those questions are:
A soul’s purpose is something that lights you up from within and feels aligned to your core.
We all have a soul’s purpose.
There are ways you can begin to uncover yours if you haven’t already.
The first myth to dispel on this topic is the idea that a soul’s purpose has to be finite. The soul’s purpose grows and evolves throughout a physical lifetime. Your souls’ purpose can change as you change. What I believe stays true is the underlying desire to serve others in some way. We all have that desire deeply rooted within us, and the way we carry out that desire can change as we evolve.
Another myth is our soul’s purpose has to be something monumentally gigantic. Did you ever feel that way? For example, the things you enjoy aren’t “good enough” or “big enough” to qualify as your souls’ purpose? We put a lot of weight on those words, and feel they must amount to something huge!
What if famous artists or musicians thought that when they were just beginning? We would be deprived of their creative genius and impact on our world. What if world renowned chefs thought cooking wasn’t big enough to equate to a soul’s purpose? We would have missed out on delectable culinary masterpieces throughout the ages. Not every soul’s purpose needs to be rocket science status, brain surgeon complexity, or Elon Musk caliber. The beauty of this world is that variety truly is the spice of life! Your gifts are needed, that’s why they’ve been given to you. They are unique and special, and they were bestowed upon you to share with the world. Embrace your gifts and don’t feel the need to diminish them. They are yours and they are perfect.
Discovering your soul’s purpose is not a daunting task. You may actually find it fun and exciting as you begin the journey. To do so, you must dive into thy self and form a connection with the highest version of you. This sounds more difficult than it really is, I promise.
Most of us know a lot about other people. We know numerous stats around our favorite athletes, we are on top of the gossip swirling around current celebrities, we know a lot about politicians and public figures; however, the person we need to learn about is the one that stares back at us in the mirror. That is the most important person in your world.
Getting to know yourself better will organically begin to uncover what your soul’s purpose is.
Here are some steps you could start taking to begin to uncover your soul’s purpose:
- Pray – This does not have to represent any religious denomination. Whatever you believe in: God, Source, Buddha, Mother Nature, Infinite Intelligence, Divine Light, Angels, etc., pray and declare you are open to receive the answers to your questions. The teachings of Abraham Hicks states that when we ask, it is always given. The problem we seem to face is in receiving what it is we asked for. We must feel worthy of receiving. Become clear that you are ready to receive the answer when the time is right for you. Don’t ask in a needy way, as that low vibrational energy creates resistance and lack. Ask from a place of trusting and knowing the answer will reveal itself to you in divine timing, and then let it go. Trust that the answer will make its way to you.
- Meditate – Meditation can look different for everybody. You may only meditate for five minutes while others may meditate for three hours. You may have never meditated a day in your life. Try sitting quietly in a comfortable spot, set your intention, close your eyes (if it’s safe to do so), breathe in through your nose out through your mouth, and listen to what comes up in that moment. This practice can help you start connecting with the highest version of yourself. It gives you a moment to connect with source energy, or whatever higher power it is you choose to connect with. It gives you a moment to listen. Prayer is asking the questions; meditation is listening for the answers. It gives you space to relax and become an open vessel. It is a gift you’re giving yourself, and giving yourself this glorious gift will begin the momentum of putting yourself higher up on your to do list. Set an intention to get to know yourself on a soul level. Just getting to tune into YOU will start opening the doors to your soul’s purpose.
- Journal – Journaling is a self-care ritual that helps get ideas, desires, and dreams out of your mind and onto paper, hence making them real. With this journal exercise I invite you to make a list. Write down a few things that you’re good at and enjoy doing. Some examples could be singing, writing, cooking, being a parent, being a spouse, photography, biking, cleaning, organizing, running, working out, self-care, speaking, creating, technology, crafting, etc. This list is a great way to acknowledge your talents and gifts, and take a closer look at the things you enjoy and excel at. Your soul’s purpose is what makes your heart sing. It may be right there on that list you’ve just made staring you in your face. What if it is? What if it is that easy? Can it be? Or does something so important need to be really hard? That’s a decision you need to ponder? That brings me to my next step.
- Make a list of your limiting beliefs. This one isn’t always comfortable, but very necessary. Limiting beliefs could be statements such as: Money is hard to come by, That’s not for people like us, You have to sacrifice if you want to succeed, If you don’t go to college you’ll never get a job, xyz runs in my family, I’m not good enough, I’m too old or too young, there’s never enough time, there’s never enough money, good jobs are hard to come by, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince, I have a black cloud over my head, must be nice,. These limiting beliefs are thoughts and ideas you’ve adopted as truth and may be keeping you from embracing your soul’s purpose. For instance, if you carry the limiting belief that success only comes if you sacrifice everything and work yourself to death, the idea of doing something that’s fun to you and that comes easily may not enter your mind because it goes against a belief you carry as true. Getting to know what limiting beliefs you’ve adopted is a great step in creating awareness around what may be inadvertently standing in your way.
- Lastly, ask yourself this question: If money wasn’t a factor, what would I be doing right now?
I am not suggesting quitting your day job, but really think about your answer to this question. Does it match what you’re currently doing? Is it in the ballpark of what you’re currently doing? How might you start incorporating this desire into your life?
For instance, if your answer to this question was, “If money wasn’t a factor, I’d be an artist” but you’re currently working as an accountant. How could you begin to incorporate more art into your current reality? You might enroll in a weekly art class through your town or local college. You might turn a corner of your house into your art spot and create a space to paint when you have some free time. You might visit a local craft store and peruse the aisles and see what types of supplies you would enjoy working with. You might watch a virtual art class online or on YouTube. Whatever it is, it is one step closer to the thing you said you would like to do if money wasn’t a factor. Living in alignment with what feels good to us helps us get closer to discovering our souls’ purpose. It creates joy in our lives and raises our energetic vibration. Once we’re vibrating at a higher frequency, more things we enjoy, and more synchronicities start showing up in our life.
Since I was very small, I found joy in creating. I like to serve others in ways that allow me to utilize my creativity. I have embraced that about myself, and I allow that joy to surface and evolve in everything I do.
I also enjoy conversing with others, listening from a soul level, and my deep connection with Angels and all things spiritual. I took those loves and turned them into an intuitive life coaching business. I allow space for my coaching clients to be seen, heard, and most of all to connect with the highest versions of themselves. There is no judgement. It is truly quite magical! I have been blessed to help others on their spiritual transformational journeys while getting to live out my very own journey.
Our lives are meant to be enjoyed. Discovering your purpose is a way to start living in alignment with the highest version of yourself. The happier we are, the higher our vibration is. That higher vibration energy not only enhances our lives, but also the lives around us. It’s truly a beautiful thing!
I encourage you to accept the wink you have just received from the Universe by discovering this post. It was meant for you to see, or, it would not be in front of you right now. We get winks and signs all of the time. Our job is to tune in and notice them. If it is help we desire, we only need to ask. The Universe, and our team of light, wants to help us.
Become aware that you are an energetic being and have the ability to create the life of your dreams. Once you tap into the magic and splendor of who you truly are, everything begins to shift in an organic way.
Get in tune with all that is YOU and honor the way you feel. You intuitively know more than you give yourself credit for.
Allow Grace to flow into your life as you travel through this physical world. My prayer for you today is to live a life that incorporates joy into your day-to-day happenings. Live each day as it was your first, and always have a beginner’s mind.
