EFT tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a method that involves tapping on specific acupuncture points on the body while focusing on a specific issue or problem. It helps shift our energy and change the way we feel about various topics and ideas. EFT combines ancient Chinese acupuncture with modern day psychology. It is a mind, body, soul modality that is gaining recognition and popularity.
Tapping has been shown to send calming signals to the amygdala of our brain, which is the area that’s responsible for the fight or flight response. Tapping helps to turn down our internal fire alarm and allow us to feel calmer. You can see a visual representation of how Tapping calms our brain by the video below from Dr. Peta Stapleton, who uses Focus Bands for EEG neurofeedback.
Why does EFT Tapping help calm us
EFT tapping is believed to help calm us by reducing the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone in our bodies. It may also help to stimulate the body’s relaxation response, which can lead to a decrease in feelings of anxiety and tension. Additionally, tapping can help to shift our focus away from negative thoughts and emotions, allowing us to feel more centered and grounded. A reduction in anxiety and cortisol can be beneficial in a weight loss journey.
If you’ve been on a weight loss journey and aren’t feeling satisfied with your results, or are feeling stuck and can’t seem to get past a certain goal, Tapping may be a great addition to help peel back the layers of possible blocks and blind spots.
Always check with your physician if you suspect there is an underlying medical condition contributing to weight gain or the inability to lose weight. If you have a clean bill of health and are still having a difficult time, Tapping might help you break through whatever is holding you back. It’s safe, easy to learn, and feels great too!
Can EFT Tapping help me lose weight
Weight loss can not be achieved by Tapping alone. Proper nutrition, proper hydration, portion size, overall health and well being, and exercise are crucial to maintain a healthy weight. However, many people who are on a weight loss journey will admit there can be psychological components to losing weight and keeping it off. This is where Tapping may help.
You might be doing great on your weight loss journey, but your progress gets hijacked by stress eating, or cravings you can’t seem to shake. Stress and cravings are topics you can Tap on to begin to move through those feelings and limiting beliefs.
Tap along with the scripts below or create your own Tapping script using the 9 Tapping points pictured here:
Before you begin Tapping for weight loss, think of the specific issue you’d like to Tap on, and rate your intensity around that issue on a scale of 1-10. When you complete you round or rounds of Tapping, check back in with yourself and notice if the number decreased at all.

- Collarbone: I honor my body and give it nourishing foods
- Underarm: I am capable of finding peace and calm without turning to food

Take a deep breath and continue tapping if needed. When you feel as if you’re ready to stop, check in with your body and mind to see if you notice any shifts in your behavior or thinking.

When you feel you’re ready to stop Tapping, check back in with yourself and see if your intensity around the issue decreased any.
EFT on YouTube
Some individuals prefer Tapping along with a practitioner. If that works best for you, YouTube has many Tapping videos you might enjoy.
Some of my favorites to Tap with when I’m not making my own Tapping videos’ are:
It may feel easier at first to Tap alongside someone else until you feel comfortable creating scripts of your own. Whatever works for you is the best option!
As time goes on and you begin to feel more comfortable with Tapping, you can just begin talking on a topic while Tapping and allow whatever needs to come up happen organically.
Tapping is a great modality to have in your self care toolbox. It can be used anytime, anywhere, and as frequently as needed. I hope you’ll give this technique a try.
